A plunger pump is a reciprocating pump with a fixed high-pressure seal and a smooth cylindrical plunger that slides over the seal. These two features of a piston pump distinguish it from a plunger pump. It can generate higher pressures than a piston pump. As a result, it can be used in high-pressure applications.
